Bhubaneswar: A day after passage of a Bill envisaging 10 per cent reservation for economically weaker sections (EWS) of general category in the Parliament, the state BJP Thursday demanded passing of a similar Bill in the state Assembly on the first day of the upcoming Budget session.
Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the passage of the Bill in both Houses of the Parliament, state BJP’s Scheduled Caste Cell in-charge Dillip Mallick said, “With the passing of this historic bill, the EWS category people who have been deprived since Independence will be benefited.”
To ensure the benefit of the decision reach people of the state, the BJD government should pass the Bill on the first day of the next session of the Assembly and implement it immediately, he said.
“By amending the Constitution, the Centre has enhanced the total quota from 49.5 per cent to 59.5 per cent. This will help economically weaker sections people in employment in public sector and education without harming SC, ST candidates,” he asserted.
