Bhubaneswar: In a scathing attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Barabati-Cuttack MLA Debashish Samantaray Thursday said that the saffron party is funding for lawyers’ strike for which the protest is continuing despite several rounds of meetings with administration.
Speaking to the reporters here, Samantaray said, “It has now come to our notice that a political party is trying to stall governance in the state by provoking such agitations. All such agitations are being provoked by this force.”
“It was noticed that several meetings have been held between the agitating lawyers and the government authorities, starting from Cuttack DCP level to Law minister level. Although the lawyers have agreed to resume work after assurance by the government at these meetings, at later stage they again continue their strike,” the BJD legislator pointed out.
“It is evident that some political party is behind the strike. As there are two opposition parties in state – Congress and BJP. It is obvious that it is BJP,” the BJD spokesperson mentioned.
Reacting to the allegation, state BJP vice-president Samir Mohanty said, “BJD workers attempted to forcibly enter into the Orissa High Court with the help of Biju Yuva Vahini goons and resorted violence. They have also deployed 25 platoons of police force there.” As they failed to do so, the BJD has started blaming the BJP, he said.
Meanwhile, leader of Opposition Narasingha Mishra slammed the government for not resolving the deadlock. “It is the fundamental right of every citizen to get justice. And it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that this right is seamlessly available to the people. I have raised this issue in the Assembly during last session but the state government remained a mute spectator,” Mishra said.
