BJP’s nominee booked for intimidating rival

Gopalpur: Golanthara police registered a case against the BJP’s Chikiti Assembly nominee Manoranjan Dyan Samantara and his associates on charges of threatening a home-bound person at gunpoint over political hostilities.

The incident occurred when Jivan Behera and his friend Shankar Behera were returning home on a bike to their Aruasunapur village under this police limits April 19. According to police, the BJP’s Chikiti candidate Manoranjan and his associates Pintu Sethy, Chandra Sekhar Behera and others waylaid two persons near a canal at Jhatipadar village and picked up a quarrel with them. Later, Manoranjan and his associates threatened them at gunpoint and brutally assaulted them.

Police registered a case and started an investigation after Jiban lodged a complaint at Golanthara police station. When contacted, IIC Babuli Nayak said that a probe is underway.

BJP candidate Manoranjan rubbished the charges stating that he was not in the area and had been to Mahanga Assembly constituency for campaigning April 19 when the incident occurred.

He alleged that police had registered a false case against him to stop arresting the accused involved in the attack on BJP supporters April 18. He alleged that the Zilla Parishad member (zone no.18) Gobind Behera and his associates attacked the BJP supporters in Sunapur village April 18. He stated that he is prepared to face for any type of investigation.
