Bhubaneswar: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is going to organise a state-wide protest against BJD government. Alleging that the state government had hijacked Central rural housing scheme, the state BJP would gherao the offices of blocks, NACs and municipalities September 27.
Briefing media persons here, state BJP president Basanta Panda criticised the state government for trying to hijack centrally-sponsored schemes, especially housing scheme Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana (PMAY). The state government has been branding the PMAY housing units as Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana (BPGY) houses and trying to take undue mileage for the same, he alleged.
Even the government is not mentioning ‘PMAY’ in the work order issued for construction of a pucca houses under rural housing schemes, the BJP leader further alleged.
He also questioned the state government’s claim of constructing over 20 lakh pucca houses in Odisha in the last five years.
Panda said the state government had completed construction of 3.77 lakh houses under state-funded BPGY while over 16.23 lakh houses are constructed from Central assistance provided under PMAY.
BJD leader Arabinda Dhali had earlier, said, “The state government is not hijacking any scheme of Union government. All programmes and schemes are being implemented as per norms and sufficient funds are also being allocated for the same.”
