Buguda: A blackbuck was killed after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs at a spot in between Manikpur and Antarpada villages under Buguda forest limits in Ganjam district, Saturday.

The dogs attacked the blackbuck when it had strayed into the farmlands in the area in search of food. The animal sustained critical injuries in the attack, collapsed and finally died.

Forest officials seized the carcass and sent it for post-mortem.

Locals said that the animal listed as threatened species in the Red list of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lives in Vetanai area under Buguda forest limits. The animals stray into human habitats in search of food and often die in stray dog attacks or after being run over by speeding vehicles.
