Bhubaneswar: Vigilance officials from Bhubaneswar division Tuesday arrested a clerk employed with Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) while accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000.
The accused, identified as Sudhanshu Majhi, was caught red-handed while taking bribe.
Sources said, the accused clerk was allegedly demanding Rs 20,000 from a person of Rasulgarh area for release of EMD and security deposit of a work done by the latter in 2018.
Following which the complainant Prashanta Kumar Ray approached the anti-corruption officials in this connection after which Vigilance sleuths laid a trap to apprehend Majhi. The vigilance sleuths arrested Majhi while he was accepting the bribe amount.
The hand wash of the accused and right side pant pocket gave positive reactions with phenolphthalein.
Majhi was arrested and will be forwarded to court Tuesday, sources said.
The tainted bribe money of Rs 20,000 was recovered from the possession of the accused. Further investigation is on to find out involvement of other BMC officials in this case, a Vigilance source said.
