BMC flags off 3 Nidhi Ratha to create dengue awareness

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) Mayor Sulochana Das flagged off three dengue awareness vehicles named Nidhi Ratha here, Thursday. BMC commissioner Rajesh Prabhakar Patil, standing committee chairpersons, officials from BMC and Health department were present on the occasion. Nidhi Ratha will be operational in three different zones across the City. Earlier, an orientation meeting on the dengue control strategy and dengue surveillance was held at BMC office here, Wednesday.

Some of the key points of discussion included house-to-house surveillance and awareness campaigns, lane-wise monitoring and strategies to identify mosquito-breeding sources. As many as 235 dengue cases have been detected in the state this year till June 10, the health department said. According to BMC, 24 cases have been detected in the Capital city to date. Last year, the state recorded 107 dengue cases. All the CDMOs have been directed to take precautionary measures to control the spread of dengue along with setting up special dengue wards and to make adequate platelets in all district headquarters hospitals, said public health director Nilakantha Mishra. Notably, at least 7,063 dengue patients were detected in the state in 2023 and 6,563 in 2022.
