BMC notice to City hotel over ‘illegal parking’

Bhubaneswar: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC), Thursday, issued a notice to Hotel Swosti Premium for not using the parking space allotted by the civic authorities leading to traffic congestions around the area.

Sources at the BMC said the management has been tactfully avoiding parking at the BMC’s designated spot to avoid paying charges to the authority. The notice reprimanded the hotel authorities and warned a fine of Rs 50,000 for continuance of such practice.

“It has been observed that in spite of repeated notices you have been illegally parking your buses, four and two-wheelers of your hotel staff on the road of Survey of India side avoiding the approved parking space, thereby causing loss to our parking lot and creating traffic congestion on the road day and night,” stated the notice issued by North Zonal Deputy Commissioner, Pramod Kumar Prusty.

The notice further directed the hotel authorities not to park vehicles on the side of Survey of India road or else it may face a fine of Rs 50,000 per day and vehicles parked will be immediately seized and later auctioned by the BMC.

“We have asked the hotel authorities to either park their vehicles inside their premises or use the parking lot in front of the hotel at institutional rate,” Prusty said.
