Yes! As the Smart City proposal of the largest civic body of Odisha is cantered around the child-friendly philosophy, it has proved its mettle by extending an immediate help of Rs 5,000 under Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) to a seven-year-old child, abandoned by her parents at Tarini Basti in VSS Nagar under Ward No 17.
Sheya Patra, 7, is a happy child today. Though her parents are no longer with her and she is looked after by her maternal grandparents Satrughan Swain ,70, and Basanti Swain ,55, the unfortunate child’s plea was heard by BMC Commissioner Samarth Verma and he ordered immediate help under CMRF for the girl child.
It is learnt that while Sheya’s father Trilochan Patra ,25, left her mother before her birth, her mother Mamata Patra ,22, left the girl and went away searching for a better life outside the city.
After hearing the ordeal of the little girl, the BMC Commissioner ordered a field inquiry and the same was carried out by BMC’s North Zone officials. After submission of the enquiry report, the North Zone Deputy Commissioner, Pramod Kumar Prusty, handed over a cheque for Rs 5,000 to the maternal grandparents of Sheya in her presence at the zonal office. Zonal community organiser Prashant Kumar Rout coordinated the entire process.
