Malkangiri: Fire Services personnel Thursday morning recovered the body of a fisherman from Chitrakonda reservoir in Odisha’s Malkangiri district following the capsising of a boat carrying three fishermen in the reservoir.

The deceased fisherman Krupa Benia had gone missing Wednesday following the mishap, a source said.

Two others accompanying Krupa Benia managed to swim to safety. They were identified as Hari Sagaria and Kailash Nayak.

According to the source, three persons from Nakamamudi panchayat were returning to Singaram village by a country boat after fishing in Chitrakonda reservoir. They faced high-velocity winds on their way back. Consequently, the boat lost its balance and overturned in the reservoir.

The two survivors — Hari Sagaria and Kailash Nayak — informed the villagers about the incident.

Subsequently, the villagers tried to rescue Krupa. However, they could not trace him. Later, they had to pause their rescue efforts due to darkness.

On being informed, a team of Fire Services personnel Thursday morning launched a rescue operation and recovered his body.
