Sundargarh: One day after falling into River Ib while clicking selfies and going missing, the girl’s body was fished out Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Anupama Prajapati (24), a resident of Rajgangpur.
Anupama and her 14 other family members had gone to Ghagar Ghat of Ib for picnicking Sunday. She was clicking selfies when her feet slipped and she fell into the water.
The boy who was with her at the time of the mishap jumped into the water to save her.
In the meantime, on being informed forest personnel and a police team from Talasara police station reached the spot. Though they could rescue the boy, their attempts to find out the missing girl went in vain. They resumed the rescue operation Monday morning and fished out the body.
In a similar incident, a minor lost his balance while clicking selfies and fell into the water at Kumbhijhar Waterfall picnic spot in Boudh district Sunday. Though he was rescued and rushed to the Boudh district headquarters hospital (DHH), the doctors there declared him brought dead. The deceased was identified as Jyotisman Nayak of Tikabali area in Kandhamal district. He along with his family members had gone to Kumbhijhar Waterfall for picnicking.
