Bolangir: Tension ran high near KV College square on Bangomunda road under Kantabanji police limits in this district after a body of a youth was recovered from a field near the college Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Suman Kuwar, a resident of Sunaripada village.
The matter came to light after some locals spotted Suman’s body and alerted the cops and his family members.
Though it is suspected that Suman’s died due to a road mishap, his family members alleged that he was murdered.
Police registered a case based on a complaint by Suman’s father and launched a probe. The body was seized and sent for autopsy.
“Suman and his friend had gone to the nearby village on a motorcycle. We called him several times, but he did not receive our call. Today morning we saw his body lying in the field. My son has been murdered and I urge the government to provide justice and compensation to my family,” said Chanchal Kuwar, father of Suman.
“The body has been sent for post-mortem. We will start the investigation based on the post-mortem report,” said Bijaynanda Karkara, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of Kantabanji Police Station.
Meanwhile, locals staged a road blockade on National Highway-42 linking Kantabanji-Bangomunda, demanding justice and compensation.
A police team was deployed to maintain law and order while senior officials tried to pacify the mob. The agitators continued the agitation and demanded immediate arrest of the accused.
