Kendrapara: An alleged custodial death came to the fore from Pattamundai police station Wednesday.
The wife of Susanta Behera, 38, a bootlegger, alleged that her husband was beaten to death in police custody.
Demanding arrest of the accused and compensation for them, his family members staged a dharna in front of Pattamundai police station Wednesday evening. Behera operated illegal liquor trade in
the locality.
Police nabbed him from his house and allegedly assaulted him near his house before taking him to police station. Later, Behera fell sick in the police station.
He was rushed to Pattamundai CHC where doctors referred him to District Headquarters Hospital. From DHH, he was referred to SCB Medical College where he died.
