NZP also mulling to bring rhinoceros, zebra and giraffe from Gwalior zoo
Barang: Visitors to the state Botanical Garden, there is something exciting flying your way!
The Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) authorities would soon bring in vultures for which they have started revival of the Vulture Reproduction Centre at the ‘The Garden of Heaven’.
Sources said apart from being a source of amusement for visitors, the vultures would help increase the scavenger family. The NZP authorities would bring around 12 vultures from the Gwalior Zoo. “We have decided to bring the vultures from Gwalior Zoo as they have a good number of the scavenger. The Central Zoo Authority of India has given the approval to the import. Besides, our Gwalior counterpart has also agreed upon the proposal,” NZP deputy director Jayant Kumar Das said, adding that the import process has commenced and Vulture Reproduction Centre, which has been lying in a dilapidated condition, is being revived.
Sources said NZP has also been mulling to bring in rhinoceros, zebra and giraffe from its Gwalior counterparts. “Besides, our primary focus is on bringing endangered species like vultures and pangolins to NZP, enhancing their number and later releasing them at their suitable habitats,” the NZP deputy director said.
