Bhubaneswar: The state government has decided to make Boyanika sarees mandatory for all female school teachers of high schools and upper primary schools from this academic year.
The decision was taken at a high-level meeting held in the presence of Handlooms and Textile Minister Snehangini Chhuria, Higher Education Minister Anant Das and School and Mass Education Minister Badri Narayan Patra.
“Female teachers of both high schools as well as upper primary schools will wear Boyanika sarees from this academic session. However, there shall be no change in the pattern or colour of their uniform,” Churia told media persons after the meeting.
Subsequently, the uniform of students and male teachers will also be replaced with the same hand-woven textile materials. However, colour of the uniform will remain the same, she added.
The Minister said that this decision was taken with an aim to strengthen the financial status of the hand weavers along with ensuring that they get work throughout the year.
