Bhubaneswar: The Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) will soon introduce Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) facility in an attempt to give an impetus to the air cargo business. According to sources at BPIA, all the cargo related operations would be accomplished through EDI online which in turn would benefit the cargo shippers. BPIA director Suresh Chandra Hota said the airport would introduce the EDI facility after the approval of the Customs department. “This facility will be helpful for shippers,” he added. A decision regarding EDI was taken at a meeting chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary of MSME department LN Gupta December 17. Experts said this EDI facility will help the airport achieve its target of becoming a cargo hub. Earlier this month, international cargo services became operational at the airport.
