BPUT students take grievances to streets

Bhubaneswar: The students of Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) and members of United BPUT Students’ Association Wednesday staged protests at multiple places in the City alleging university’s ‘negligence’ in several matters such as ragging on the campus, delay in publication of results, improper evaluation of exam papers and non-functional website.

Suman Kumar Sahoo, president of BPUT and a student of Rajdhani Engineering College, said, “We demand special classes on ragging for the students as we think that more awareness is necessary for the students so that they never cross their limits while engaged in entertainment activities.”

Sahoo added, “We demand manual evaluation of the papers because online evaluation hampers the marks. Also, despite a lot of talk with the authorities the exams were taking place very late and not as per academic calendar. Publication of results is also late.”

The students, who protested at Rasulgarh, Khandagiri, Nalco Square, Sundarpada, said they would go on a hunger strike very soon if their demands were not fulfilled.

Earlier, members of United BPUT Students’ Association had joined a large number of students, parents, social activists, educationists in the ragging-free campus Abhiyan Sunday.
