Bhubaneswar: A high drama unfolded in front of Odisha Assembly after a couple from Nayagarh attempted to commit suicide Tuesday.
At a time when the Winter Session is going on and there is heavy deployment of police forces, this incident has raised many eyebrows.
The couple, residents of Nayagarh district, somehow reached the Assembly front and tried to self immolate themselves by pouring diesel on them.
However, the security personnel’s timely intervention thwarted a mishap. They overpowered the couple and immediately whisked them away from the spot.
The reason behind their self-immolation bid is yet to be ascertained.
More details are awaited.
Notably, in a similar incident that occurred last month, a youth had held his mother hostage at knifepoint in front of Odisha Assembly near PMG square October 1, catching the security personnel napping. The youth, identified as Jitendra Pal of Nayagarh, threatened to kill his mother with a knife to her neck. He was later overpowered by the security personnel deployed there.
The frequent occurrence of such cases in the high-security zone has suggested nothing but security breaches, some alleged.
