Jhumpura: A dilapidated bridge over Baitarani river in Nayagad panchayat of Jhumpura block in Keonjhar district is on the verge of collapse with the iron walls on both sides of the bridge having developed cracks.
Besides, motorists are facing danger due to a large pothole on the bridge.
The bridge which connects NH 20 near Palaspanga is the only route for trucks and trailers from Joda mines.
Locals said the bridge trembles when heavy vehicles pass over it.
At least eight trucks have fallen off the bridge and into the river in the past two years. Accidents have claimed many lives here and the locals have lodged a complaint regarding the health of the bridge with Bamebari police.
They alleged that the PWD hasn’t yet taken steps to repair the bridge.
Keonjhar PWD in-charge engineer Ashok Giri said efforts were on to repair the bridge at the earliest.
