Bhubaneswar: Kabir Hans of Odisha performed splendidly to emerge champion in the U-18 singles event of the National Series tennis tournament in Trivandrum, Saturday. He also impressed in the doubles by finishing runners-up.
In the singles final Kabir defeated Deepender Garewal from Haryana 7-6 (7), 7-6 (6). However in the doubles final Kabir and his partner Deepender lost to the duo of Sushant Dabas and Devesh Gahlot 5-7, 5-7.
Sunrise thrash ECoR
Dinesh Lakra, Janmo Xess and Balraj Singh scored one goal apiece to help Sunrise Club beat East Coast Railway (ECoR) 3-0 in a match of the FAO Ist Division football league here Saturday at the Barabati Stadium at Cuttack.
Dinesh opened the scoring for Sunrise as he put them ahead in the 41st minute to go into the half time with a 1-0 lead.
In the second half Janmo Xess added the second in the 59th minute before Balraj netted the third three minutes later to eventually seal the match.
In the other match of the day, Lalbag Club piped Azad Hind Club 1-0. Srikant Behera scored the only goal in the 34th minute.
Sameer pips Biraj
Sameer Ali came from 1-3 down to pip Biraj Dash 4-3 in a match of the Ist All Odisha 6-red Snooker Championships at the 6Pocket Club here Saturday.

Anshika wins gold
Anshika Routray of Odisha scripted a new meet record and won the gold medal in the shot put event of the 30th East Zone Junior Athletics Championships at Patna, Saturday. Anshika threw the shot put to a distance of 11.47 metres to take the top honours.
