Brother-sister die in road Bolangir mishap

Bolangir: Tension gripped Mahipur square in Bolangir district following death of a man and his sister after a truck hit the motorcycle they were riding Tuesday.

The deceased have been identified as 21 years old Mantu Benia and 15 years old Sanju Bania of Pangunia village under Muribahal block.

The siblings were travelling on the motorcycle on Deogaon-Tusura road Tuesday morning. As they approached Mahipur square, a truck hit their motorcycle from behind and ran them over.

As the news spread, irate people staged a road blockade on the spot, demanding adequate compensation to the bereaved family. Some senior citizens demanded measures like speed breakers on the stretch to check speed driving. Back at Pangunia village, a pall gloom descended after the news broke, it was learnt.

Sanju was a student of Jagabandhu Siksha Niketan at Salepali. After spending Dussehra holidays, she was going to her school with her brother, family sources said.

On being informed, police reached the spot, collected the bodies for post-mortem and launched an investigation.
