Brown sugar seized in Puri, four including woman arrested

Puri: Puri police late Sunday night arrested four persons including a woman for their alleged involvement in intra-state drug smuggling activities.

They also seized 273 grams of brown sugar from them. The police caught them red-handed when they were travelling with the contrabands from Bhubaneswar to Puri in order to sell those contrabands to a drug peddler in Puri district.

Police said that the market value of the contrabands is about 27 lakh.

The arrestees have been identified as Prakash Behera (29) of Mangala Sahi in Puri, Seikh Sajan (25) of Sekhbard in Balasore district and Sajan’s father Seikh Samatulla (50) and his mother Apsana Bibi (45).

The accused have been court forwarded Monday on a case registered against them under NDPS Act.

According to police officials, acting on a tip-off, Sub-Inspector of Chandanpur Police Station, G Pradhan along with other staff of the PS conducted a raid and intercepted the car near Chandanpur.

Following a search, police recovered 273 gm of brown sugar from their possession.

Police also identified that the main depot from where the accused procure the contrabands is at Jaleswar of Balasore. The car in which they were travelling and a mobile phone in which the accused were dealing with other brown sugar smugglers were seized.

Police have launched an operation to find out the mastermind of the operation.
