Brown sugar weighing around 1.26kg seized near Khurda bus stand; 3 arrested

Bhubaneswar: In a major crackdown, the special task force (STF) of the Odisha Crime Branch conducted a raid Thursday evening and seized a huge cache of brown sugar weighing around 1.26 kilogram. Three persons have been arrested in this connection. The STF team was tipped off about the presence of drug peddlers trying to negotiate a deal. The team swung into action right away and conducted the raid leading to the arrests of the accused and the seizing of the contraband.

According to a STF official, the arrested were identified as Aftab alias Md Saiyaz from Mastan Road of Cuttack, Muna alias SK Kamruddin from Chhakhandi in Purunabazar area of Bhadrak and Sourav Patnaik from Palla locality of Khurda town in this district.

Some other incriminating material was also recovered from the possession of the three drug peddlers. They were produced before Khurda District and Sessions Judge Court Friday and remanded to police custody.

A STF PS case under Sections 21(C) and 29 of NDPS Act, 1985 has been registered and detailed probe is underway, the official said.
