Brown sugar worth Rs 1 crore seized in Balasore, three peddlers arrested

Balasore: In a major haul, the Special Task Force (STF) of Crime Branch along with Balasore police seized brown sugar weighing 1.105 kg during a raid at Sahadevkhunta area in Balasore Friday.

Three peddlers were arrested in this connection.

The value of the seized contraband in grey market is somewhere near Rs 1,00,00,000.

The arrested persons have been identified as Sk Jamir alias Chhotu of Masjid Gali, Arada Bazar, Prabhat Sethy of Nayabazar and Jasobant Bagh alias Sukuras of Kasimela, residents of Sahadevkhunta.

Acting on a tip off from reliable sources, the STF and Balasore police conducted a raid at a place near Hotel Jyoti Sagar and apprehended the accused.

Besides the contraband, cash of Rs 85,680 and other incriminating materials were also seized from their possession.

The accused were arrested after they  failed to produce any valid authority in support of the possession of such contraband material and forwarded to the court based on a case registered by the STF under Sections 21(c), 29 NDPS Act, 1985.

The STF has so far seized 23.273 kg of brown sugar and detected 25 cases this year. Similarly, as many as 47 drug peddlers have been arrested in 2020.
