Brown sugar worth Rs 1 crore seized, two arrested in Balasore

Balasore: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch Saturday seized brown sugar worth over Rs 1 crore from Sahadevkhunta area in Balasore town. Two peddlers were arrested in this connection.

The arrested peddlers have been identified as Manas Mukhi from Aradabazar area and Kamalakant Das – a resident of Haripur village.

Acting on a tip-off about a brown sugar deal underway at Sahadevkhunta, the STF team from Bhubaneswar conducted a raid at the tipped-off place. Upon searching, the STF officials stumbled upon brown sugar weighing 1.36 kilogram and arrested the peddlers.

During investigation, it came to fore that both Mukhi and Das have criminal antecedents. A detailed probe is underway.

Notably, the Special Task Force (STF) of the state Crime Branch had arrested five drug peddlers from a place near Khurda-Barunei road in Khurda district April 25. Brown sugar worth around Rs 1 crore was seized from their possession.
