Balasore: In a major crackdown Thursday afternoon, a joint team of the Cuttack Excise department and police personnel from Balasore carried out raid on a house at Bidyadharpur village under Basta block in this district and seized two kilogram of brown sugar, an official said.
According to the source, value of the seized contraband item would be more than Rs 2 crore in open market. The joint team has arrested as many as three drug peddlers in this connection. Several other incriminating devices were recovered from the possession of the three accused.
The joint team got information from a reliable source that the arrested men had been negotiating with different parties to sell the narcotics. Swinging into action, the team conducted the raid leading to the seizure.

On the other hand, the drug peddlers reportedly attacked the personnel during raid and ransacked the vehicles of the team. A case has been registered against the three under Sections 21 (C) and 29 of the NDPS Act, 1985.
A detailed probe into the incident is underway. The arrested trio will be forwarded to a local court Friday, the senior official informed.
It is pertinent to mention here that more than 10 kilogram of brown sugar has been seized from Balasore district so far and as many as 72 persons arrested for peddling the contraband over last three months.
