Bhubaneswar: The Quick Action Team (QAT) of Commissionerate Police (CP) Thursday arrested a person and seized around 19 grams of brown sugar worth Rs 2 lakhs from him, at the Hanuman temple near Kalarahanga canal road under Mancheswar police station limits here.
The accused identified as Ramesh Chandra Behera alias Kuna, 33, is a resident of Padasahi under Nandankanan Police limits.
Working on a tip-off, the QAT team and the Mancheswar police intercepted Behera’s motorcycle and frisked him to find the brown sugar.
The cops also seized his bike and mobile phone and are investigating the matter after registering a case (553/18) under section 20(1) (b) of the NDPS Act.
It may be mentioned here that the seizure is the third of its kind in the city in the current week, with the value of the seized contraband totaling Rs 25 lakh.
Two drug peddlers were arrested by Excise sleuths from Barmunda bus-stand Wednesday and a few days ago, 195 grams of brown sugar worth around Rs 20 lakhs was seized from Salia Sahi area here.
