Bhubaneswar Dec 8: Children aged 6-10 participated in a fancy dress competition at the headquarters of Orissa State Bharat Scouts and Guides here Monday as part of Bulbul Utsav which will be held December 8-12.
Around 250 children from districts such as Angul, Khurda, Kendrapara, Balasore, Nayagarh, Dhenkanal, and Puri are participating in the Utsav.
Eight-year-old Soumya Priyadarshini from Puri was one of the participants. Dressed as a fisherwoman, she was a show-stealer and her attire was received very well by the audience. Delighted to have got an opportunity to participate in the competition, Priyadarshini said, “I’m feeling very happy. Everyone loved my fancy dress.”
It was she who chose the fisherwoman’s dress to wear in the competition. “I’m from Puri, where there are a lot of fishermen and fisherwomen. They go on boats into the sea every day to catch fish and it must be so exciting. That’s why I chose to portray a fisherwoman,” said Priyadarshini.
The scouts and guides were seen busy with organising the event. “It brings immense pleasure to see children gathering here from different places of the state. Here they will be showcasing their talent and we too will be honing and grooming their skills,” said Mihir, one of the organising members.
Over the course of the five-day festival, the children will be showcasing their extracurricular skills in several programmes such as folk dance and other interesting activities including a peace march.
Board of secondary education director AB Ota, elementary education director Sibabrata Das, Snigdha Mishra, and state chief commissioner of Bharat Scouts and Guides Kali Prasad Mishra graced the occasion and encouraged the participants.
