Burglar thrashed for looting cash from oil tanker driver

Angul: The local residents thrashed one of the unidentified miscreants who looted an oil tanker before handing over him to police at National Highway-55 near RTO office in Angul town Monday night.

At least three bike-borne looters intercepted the tanker on the highway Monday night. After dragging the driver from the vehicle, they snatched cash worth Rs 19,000 from him and tried to flee with the tanker.

However, some local people and passers-by reached the spot hearing the screams of the driver and nabbed one of the looters.

Later, the man, who had been tied up to a roadside pole, was thrashed mercilessly by the angry mob.

The accused was rescued only when Angul Police reached the spot. The police arrested him and seized a bike used by the looters.

Police have launched a manhunt to nab the absconding looters.
