Bus carrying marriage party overturns, over 25 critical

Bhanjanagar: A wedding party turned into a nightmare after a bus ferrying the groom party overturned at Kalinga ghat on Ganjam-Kandhamal border, leaving more than 25 persons injured, Thursday.

Sources said, the driver lost balance on the wheels of the vehicle at a turning that led to the mishap. Passers-by alerted the cops who reached the spot and launched the rescue operation.

 

The injured were rescued and admitted to various local hospitals.

Sources said, the incident occurred while the groom Saroj Kumar Das (30) from Rourkela was set to get married in Aska, Ganjam. He was traveling along with his family members from Rourkela to Aska when the incident took place.

 

There were around 40-50 persons on-board the bus and the driver lost control over the wheels near Kalinga Ghat.

Five of the passengers were critically injured and taken to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. According to sources, a woman’s hand was severed in the road mishap.
