Phulbani: Twenty seven passengers were injured, six of them seriously, after the bus they were travelling in overturned at Gadiapada Ghat under Khajuripada police limits in Kandhamal district Friday morning.
All the injured passengers were rescued and admitted to the Khajuripada community health centre (CHC). Later, the critically injured people were shifted to Phulbani district headquarters hospital. The identities of the injured people are yet to be ascertained.
Sources said, the private bus ‘Raja’ carrying around 30 passengers on board started its journey from Tikabali in Kandhamal district. It was coming to Bhubaneswar. However, when the vehicle was passing through Gadiapada Ghat locality, the brakes of the bus failed. As a result, the driver lost control over the vehicle, leading to the mishap.
On getting information about the accident, Khajuripada police reached the spot and with the help of local people, rescued the passengers and rushed them to Khajuripada CHC.
A detailed probe is underway.
