Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Cabinet Tuesday decided to execute new rural piped water supply projects in different districts to ensure safe drinking water to the public.
Two such projects were approved for Mayurbhanj district which will supply safe drinking water to 1,61,722 people of 330 villages.
Similarly, two projects were approved for Khurda and Dhenkanal districts. The projects will supply safe drinking water to 2,82,951 people in 390 villages of 44 gram panchayats.
The government decided to execute two rural piped water supply projects to provide safe drinking water in the mining affected areas of Angul district using District Mineral Foundation (DMF) funds.
These projects will benefit 3,40,197 people of 388 villages in 64 panchayats.
The Cabinet said they have decided to execute piped water supply projects in Keonjhar district, especially in the district’s 589 mining affected villages.
The new rural piped water supply project will cover 526 villages in areas of Bhadrak district where water quality is poor.
The Cabinet also decided to widen and strengthen the Jamujhadi-Basudevpur-Dhamra Road to a two-lane road with paved shoulders with the cooperation of Dhamra Port Company Limited and the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).
The government said the move will help in avoiding traffic congestion during the movement of military vehicles through NH-16 to Dhamra and when heavy vehicles go to the port.
