Bhadrak: The signature campaign which was initiated by some local outfits Tuesday over the demand a medical college and hospital in Bhadrak gathered more steam Wednesday when over 1,000 people of nearly 30 organisations took out a rally from Town Hall to the collectorate.
They shouted slogans against the state and Central governments for neglecting the district in the healthcare sector. A memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister, Union Health Minister, and the Chief Minister was submitted through additional district magistrate Shyambhakt Mishra.
In the memorandum, intellectuals, students and senior citizens demanded that the government declare the establishment of medical college and hospital in 10 days.
They pointed out that over 30 lakhs people from various parts of Balasore, Kendrapara, Jajpur and Keonjhar will depend on the medical college and hospital if it is set up in Bhadrak.
The orgaisations which joined the bandwagon included Rotary Club, Sahid Bhagat Sena, Nagarika Samaj, UD Group, Gopabandhu Foundation, Tyagabhumi Sammelan, Netaji Subash Bahini, Tihidi Yuba Manch, Yuba Bahini, Biju Smruti Committee, , Jagrat Sena and Utsarga.
They observed that Bhadrak is in need for a medical college but the state government has neglected the demand.
