Basudevpur: Six candidates are contesting from the Basudevpur Assembly constituency in Bhadrak district. They are: Ashok Kumar Das (Congress); Madhabanand Mallik (BJP); Bishnubrat Routray (BJD); Nirmal Mallik (BSP); Nath Bairagi Das Behera (TMC); and Sabitarani Pakal (Independent).
However, it is expected that there will be a triangular fight between the candidates of the BJD, the BJP and the Congress. While the ruling BJD’s candidate Bishnubrat is banking upon several welfare programmes of the state government, the saffron party nominee Madhabanand is seeking votes trumpeting the various welfare programmes of the Central government.
While Ashok Das of Congress is stressing the failures of both the state and Central governments, BSP candidate Nirmal is visiting several panchayats of Basudevpur constituency, along with his supporters.
Nath Bairagi Das Behera, the first time candidate of TMC, is doing door-to-door campaign, focusing on local issues and demanding National Memorial status for Rakta Tirtha Eram.
The Independent candidate Sabitarani has taken up rampant corruption and ‘PC’ culture in government offices as the poll issues. She is also trying hard to get closer to the local voters through her campaign.
