Angul: Expediting raids on illegal cannabis farms, a special team comprising of excise sleuths, Angul police and Forest officials Friday destroyed cannabis plantations on 20 decimal of land at Kanjara village under Jarapada police limits in Angul district.
More than 340 cannabis plants were destroyed in the operation. Acting on a tip-off and the order of excise SP Suresh Chandra Nayak several illegal cannabis cultivations in other areas of the district have also been destroyed. Excise DSP Krishna Nayak, excise inspector Karuna Shankar Tiwari, Dilip Kumar Behera, Aurobindo Routray along with Jarapada SI Prasant Kumar Pradhan and Jarapada Foresyer Gagan Bihari Mohapatra were also present there.
Meanwhile, police have initiated a probe to identify the cultivators of the cannabis plants.
Cannabis cultivation and smuggling, however, went up exponentially in the district. Locals blame involvement of unscrupulous policemen behind the spike.
