Jeypore: In a major crackdown late Thursday night, an inter-state cannabis smuggling racket was busted under Jeypore police limits in Koraput district following a raid, an official informed Friday. In the process, police seized close to 1000kg of ganja which was being sent to Punjab in a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle has been arrested.
Police seized the contraband from a truck near Jeypore ghat. The market value of the seized item will be over Rs 1 crore, the police official informed.

Jeypore police got information from a reliable source that huge cache of cannabis was being transported out of Odisha from here. Swinging into action, a team of police officials led by Sadar police station officer-in-charge A Mahakur conducted the raid. The police personnel stopped a truck, which was coming from Koraput town towards the district. While searching the truck police recovered 93 packets of cannabis from it, Sadar police station in-charge stated.
The 31-year-old truck driver Amrinder Singh from Haryana was produced before a court Friday. He was remanded to police custody. Police have registered a case and initiated a probe to find out the involvement of others in the ganja smuggling racket, Mahakur stated.
