Baripada: In an extremely rare instance of cannibalism, two men were accused of feasting on human flesh collected from a crematorium in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, a source said Wednesday.

The alleged incident took place in Dantunibindha village under Badasahi block in Mayurbhanj district.

According to the source, the body of a 25-year-old girl was taken to the crematorium for final rites. The body was later placed on a funeral pyre. However, in the meantime, two drunk men reached the spot and allegedly took a half-charred body part of the deceased and consumed it, the source added.

Upon knowing about this incident, locals roughed up the accused duo and later handed them over to the police.

Police have detained both suspects and were questioning them at the time of filing this report.

In another bizarre crime incident reported last year, police arrested a woman from Sundargarh district for strangling her husband to death following a heated argument over the presence of ants in rice while having dinner.
