Car driver in soup for running over dog in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: A man is in for trouble for running over a dog near Surekha Vatika Market Complex in Atala Village near Balianta area on Bhubaneswar outskirts. ‘People for Animals’, an animal rights organisation, has lodged a report with Balianta police station in this connection.

According to the report, the man driving a sedan ran over the dog January 28 at 3:36 pm in an inebriated state. The animal died on the spot.

It was not an accident as the driver intentionally hit the dog, a member of People for Animals alleged.

“The entire incident has been captured on CCTV cameras. And as per mParivahan app, the owner of the car is Kumar Arindam,” the police report stated.

“The killing of a dog violates IPC 279 for rash driving on a public road. It also violates IPC 429 which is punishable as per the law. He also violated 184 of Motor Vehicle Act. It is also a violation of Section 11 of Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1960,” it added.
