Dhenkanal: Three members of a family were killed and three others were injured critically after the car they were travelling in hit a wild boar and skidded off the road late Friday night. The incident occurred near Sogar Shalua square under Tumusingha police limits in Dhenkanal district.
The deceased have been identified as Upendra Nath Jena (75), his wife Prafullaa Jena (70) and Pankajini Jena (37).
According to locals, Upendra Nath, his wife Prafullaa, Samir Kumar Jena (45), his wife Pankajini, son Pusiranjan (7) and daughter Pritiranjan (10) were heading from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela at the time of incident.
The driver lost control over the vehicle after it struck a wild boar crossing the road near Sogar Shalua square following which it rolled over after skidding about 30 feet.
On being informed, an ambulance reached the spot to take the injured ones to Dhenkanal district headquarters hospital (DHH).
While Upendra and Pankajini succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment in Dhenkanal, Prafullaa breathed her last under treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital where she had been referred after her condition deteriorated.
Sameer, Pusiranjan and Pritiranjan are recuperating at Dhenkanal DHH. Tumusinga IIC Bishnucharan Barik has launched an investigation into the incident.
