press trust of india
Dhaka, June 30: After Bangladesh recently overwhelmed India in a historic ODI series win at home, a section of the local media here seemingly had some fun at the cost of MS Dhoni’s team as an advertisement in a leading Bangladesh daily ‘Prothom Alo’ showed top Indian players, including MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, with their heads half shaven and under the towering presence of Mustafizur Rahman, the rookie pacer who single-handedly wrecked Indian batting.
The caricature, advertising stationery goods, showed Mustafizur with a ‘cutter’, the delivery that fetched him the majority of his 13 wickets. The photo-shopped image was published in the daily’s humour magazine section- ‘Rosh Alo’, June 29.
However, the advertisement, mocking India’s downfall, failed to evoke the response it probably desired as several local fans criticised the post in the paper’s Facebook edition, calling it ‘unceremonious’ and ‘betraying Bangladeshi culture’.
Akram Hossain Rumye, wrote on the daily’s Facebook page: “Dear Editor, this is in poor taste. You have ashamed 16 crore Bangladeshis. Is mocking India part of our culture?”
