Bhubaneswar, Dec 8: A five-member team of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Monday raided the house of Durga Prasad Mishra, managing director of a microfinance company, at Patia-based Aryabhumi Housing Complex on charges duping investors.
According to sources, the CBI sleuths have seized incriminating documents pertaining to the microfinance company. The central investigating agency would soon summon Mishra for interrogation, sources claimed.
The team reached Mishra’s residence at 3pm and carried out search till 4.30pm. Mishra’s family members were also interrogated for quite some time. The raid was conducted when Mishra was away from home. However, the CBI officials refused to divulge any information regarding the seizure of documents to the media.
According to sources, Mishra is alleged to have duped several depositors across the state of over Rs 100 crore on the promise of doubling their money in several ponzi schemes. Depositors had filed a complaint with Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch (CB) March 28 when Mishra failed to refund their money.
Crime Branch had booked Mishra and two other company officials and arrested its chairman Ashok Patnaik after registering a case in this connection.
However, Mishra had sought anticipatory bail which was granted by a court later.
The CBI also grilled deputy director of Orissa Renewable Energy Development Agency (OREDA) Ashok Choudhury.
“They asked me questions relating to Seashore Group. OREDA had no MoU with Seashore. However, they were working on a solar energy project,” Choudhury said.
