Celebrating music with StarMaker

Bhubaneswar: StarMaker, a new musical app, appears to be the latest trend with school children in the capital city. Developed by a San Francisco-based company, the social music creation app currently boasts of a community comprising 30 million users. Creators Jeff Daniel and Nathan Sedlander say, “After the age of 12 or 13 years, everyone becomes self-conscious and people start to look at you funnily if you don’t have a perfect voice. That’s why we created the perfect and private app for every music lover who wants to experience Karaoke singing.

Orissa POST interacted with some school students to learn about their experience after using this app.

“It’s keeping me engaged with music and I am happy to hear my own voice says,” Shubhranshu Mishra of DAV Kalinga Nagar.

“In fact, this smart phone app allows me to explore my own singing power and I use it only when I am free. I can also use the ‘auto-tune your voice’ feature of the app while I sing. The basic functionality is the same as StarMaker’s own karaoke app, but it has been given a voice-themed facelift. My friends also use it and their followers are much more than me,” Shubranshu explained.

His parents Surjya Narayan and Pranati Mishra also feel that everyone should avail this opportunity in order to sing well.

Baibhaba Satpathy, a student of St. Joseph’s High School, already has 100 followers within just five days of opening his own StarMaker account. For him, it’s fun and excitement following legendary singers’ songs online. He said, “Who doesn’t want to sing like Zayn Malik or Shawn Mendes – everyone does. So, following the exit of One Direction I along with five other friends made a StarMaker group that follows the biggest stars, both in national and international music circuit.” For his parents Preetam and Debabala Satpathy, there is no harm in children following this app.

Ayushi Samantaray, a Class 11 student at St. Joseph’s High School, says, ” StarMaker is offering is a cool exposure to music by creating one’s own video or Collab with other youths and creating their own fan base and ultimately, a career through a smart phone app. It has no geological boundaries and not only English, but Hindi songs are also available .What’s more, you can see the lyrics while singing using the app. No need to go for long queues for auditions and hearing negative comments from the gatekeepers who think they know it all”.
