Bhubaneswar: A state-level Water Quality Assurance Cell (WQAC) was inaugurated by Housing & Urban Development (H&UD) Additional Chief Secretary G Mathi Vathanan near Satya Nagar here, Wednesday. The cell will facilitate improved water quality monitoring and surveillance with a strong vigil and ensure zero failure in water quality parameters in the water supply system, starting from intakes to consumer taps in all cities across the state, said sources. Former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests Sisir Kumar Ratho has been appointed to lead the cell as the Principal Advisor (Water) in the department. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed with IIT-Madras Tuesday to provide technical advisory services to the cell as required. Mathi Vathanan said Odisha became a live example of demonstrating the 24X7 urban drinking water supply with its transformative Drink from Tap Mission globally.
