Central Zone, J&K teams register wins

Bhubaneswar: Central Zone teams (A and B) and Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) teams (A and B) started their campaign on a winning note defeating their respective opponents on the opening day of the All India CRPF Inter-Zone hockey tournament at the KIIT Hockey Stadium, here, Tuesday.

Central Zone A defeated South Zone A 3-1 while Central Zone B thrashed South Zone B 15-0.  J&K A prevailed over North Zone A 3-1 while J&K B scrapped past North East Zone B 1-0.

12 qualify

V Akash, Gautam Prasad Bhol, Ananda Mohapatra, K Bhimmaya, S Krishna Rao, Trinath behera, R Guru Kumar, Appana Behera, Gita Devi, Deepa Nayak, Diptirani Adhya  and Bhanupriya Sahoo of Odisha have qualified for the All India Invitational Carrom Tournament to be played at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, July 26-29, Odisha State Carrom Association (OSCA) announced in a press release, Tuesday.

Series victory

The Indian cricket team for visually-impaired recorded an easy 4-1 series win against Sri Lanka in the T20 Bilateral Series which concluded Tuesday in Colombo. The last two games were played on the same day.

In the first match of the day (fourth of the series) Sri Lanka scored 148 for nine inclusive of six penalty runs. Sunil Ramesh (3/25) was the pick of the bowlers for India. Durga Rao (68, 50b, 8×4) then fashioned India’s chase as they reached the target losing eight wickets.

In the last game of the series, riding on Sunil’s (100 n o) century, India defeated the hosts by 10 wickets.
