Centre releases Rs 17.75cr under RUSA

Bhubaneswar, April 13: The Centre has released infrastructure grants of Rs 17. 75 crore under Rashtriya Uchatara Sikshya Abhiyan (RUSA) during the financial year 2014-15 as demanded by the state government.
The Union ministry of human resource development (MHRD) has sanctioned the amount for the infrastructure development of five universities and 21 colleges in state, sources said.
While five universalities– Berhampur University, Utkal University, Sambalpur University, Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) and Veer Surrender Sai University of Technology (VSSUT) — have got Rs 2.5 crore each, 21 colleges received Rs 25 lakh each.
The higher education department Monday asked the concern institutions to submit the plan and estimate of the construction and renovation work for the approval of the competent authority.
The colleges and universities have been asked to start work immediately so that 75 per cent of the released fund can be utilised by May 2015 and on the submission of the utilisation certificate, the MHRD will release the rest amount under the scheme, official sources said.
“The funds for other approved proposals like university status for Khollikote College and RD Women’s College will be released later as it involves the lengthy process of submission of detail project report and its approval” an official of the department said.
