Nabarangpur: Good news for farmers of Chandahandi block in Nabarangpur district. In a major boost to agriculture, the state government has decided to set up minor irrigation projects in the block, known as a dry zone.
In the current year, the minor irrigation department has undertaken work on five irrigation projects while two are nearing completion, it was learnt.
According to reports, Rs 8 crore will be spent on the project at Chitu Ghat to provide irrigation facilities to 203 hectares of land.
Similarly, another irrigation project will be built at a cost of Rs 18 crore at Chepatiamba under Dabugan block to irrigate 470 hectares of farmland.
The above two irrigation projects are funded by NABARD, said executive engineer Suresh Chandra Pradhan.
The minor irrigation department (MID) is going to build another project at Kuhudi under Chandahandi block to irrigate 900 hectares.
Besides, another project will be built at Malgaon to provide irrigation to 1,340 hectares of land. Yet another project to be set up at Rajkot will irrigate 408 hectares. Tender process for these projects is in progress, the executive engineer said.
MID sources said about 8,500 hectares in the district have been under irrigational coverage while check dams cover 200 hectares of farmland.
