Chandan wins overall title

Cuttack, June 21:  Chandan Kumar Behera of Orissa emerged champion of champions in the physically- challenged masters’ category, while the team bagged 10 medals in the National Arm Wrestling Championships, which concluded Saturday at Bajpur, Uttarakhand. All the medal winners qualified for the World Arm Wrestling Championships at Malaysia in September.

Results: Gold: Goutam Kumar Kahali; (men’s 65kg, junior 65 kg); Chandan Kumar Behera (physically- challenged 90 kg, champion of champions. He also won silver in 110kg and 80kg category).

Bronze: Sambit Kumar Nanda (men’s 110kg and 65 kg); Prabir Kumar Sarangi (80kg) Basudev Singh, (physically-challenged).

OTVA inaugurated

The new office of the Orissa Tennis Volleyball Association (OTVA) was inaugurated by the organisation’s secretary Kailash Chandra Barik here Sunday. The game will make its debut in the state soon.

“So far 11 district associations have joined with OTVA. The first state level Tennis Volleyball championships will be organised by the association here in December,” stated Barik.

Explaining the modalities of the game Barik said: “The game was first played at Germany in 1985 and was initiated in India in 1999. It is played in the same way as volleyball but according to tennis rules and scores.”

Debashis-OMFED tie-up 

Orissa State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation Limited (OMFED) will honour the first chess Grandmaster of the State Debashis Das by naming him its brand ambassador. “I have conducted a round of discussions with OMFED authorities about the deal and it will be finalised within the next three-four days,” Debashis informed over the phone, Sunday.
