Chandigarh: A 73-year-old woman from Chandigarh survived endless torture and assault at the hands of her own son, daughter-in-law and even her grandson.
As per media reports, the elderly woman’s son, who is a practising lawyer was arrested by the police after collecting the visual evidence from the CCTV camera that the accused installed himself in his mother’s room. The CCTV videos showed limitless torture and thrashing the woman endured by her family members.
The victim has been identified as Asha Rani – a resident of Punjab’s Rupnagar living with her son, daughter-in-law and grandson.
Asha who had been living with his son after losing her husband, who died of heart attack informed her daughter Deepshika, that her son, the accused Ankur Verma and his wife, Sudha physically assaulted her.
Upon Learning of her mother’s situation, the daughter somehow managed to obtain the video footage of the CCTV camera.
The video the recovered showed how the accused, his wife and their son assaulting the victim miserably. The videos of September 19, October 21 and October 24 showed the man punching and slapping his mother on multiple occasions. There were instances when the accused wife and their son assaulting the victim.

Acting upon a complaint filed by the daughter, a police team along with some NGO members rescued Asha Saturday.
A police official informed that Ankur Verma has been arrested and a case has been filed under the sections related to voluntarily hurting for property extortion, wrongful confinement and Section 24 of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act.
