Berhampur: The family members of a deceased infant along with locals ransacked the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Buguda in Ganjam district accusing the hospital staff of medical negligence, a source said Thursday.

The deceased infant’s family hails from Neliabandha Sahi in Buguda town.

According to the source, Magi Naik’s five-month-old child died within hours after it was administered a vaccine at the CHC under government guidelines Wednesday.

The child was administered the vaccine Wednesday morning. However, its condition deteriorated by night. Subsequently, the infant was taken to the CHC again, where a doctor pronounced it dead, the source added.

Though the exact reason behind the child’s death was not ascertained, the family members of the infant blamed the medical authorities for the incident.

Following the death, infuriated family members and locals of Neliabandha barged into the CHC and vandalised it Wednesday night.

Later, police reached the spot and controlled of the situation.

The CHC authorities, however, did not issue any comment in this regard.
