Chhatisha Nijog discusses SC order on temple affairs

Puri: Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Saturday convened the meeting of Chhatisha Nijog, the apex body of the confederation of all sections of the temple servitors, to discuss the various aspects of the recent judgement of the Apex court on the affairs in the temple.

The Supreme Court while adjudicating a public interest litigation (PIL) Friday among other things ordered the temple administrator to ensure that no direct collection of offering is made by any Sevak and all the offerings will be deposited in the Hundi.

The SC directed the District judge of Puri to file an interim report by June 30 on the factual aspects of difficulties faced by the devotees, exploitative practices and deficiencies in the management.

Jagannath temple Public Relations Officer L D Pujapanda clarified that a notice in this regard is being circulated on social media and in a section of electronic media stating that the  temple has ordered closure of all donations collecting “thaals and bowls” from the temple.

Pujapanda said it was a draft copy and nothing has been finalised. The decision would be taken after deliberations with the servitors and all stakeholders in adherence to the SC judgement.

Devotees and servitors welcomed the Supreme Court judgement. The administration is taking utmost care to ensure the judgement is implemented, he said.
